Grapes!
Thousands of grape varieties, international and indigenous, make up the world of wine. This course will focus on one grape variety in its many varied expressions in winegrowing regions around the world.
Learning to recognize different grape varieties is a great way to start learning about wine.
Cabernet Sauvignon grown in France, for example, may taste significantly leaner than Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Chile. Chardonnay from Burgundy, on the other hand, may present a crisper character than Chardonnay from Australia. And Riesling from Germany’s Mosel Valley may deliver a far racier Riesling than Riesling from the Rheingau, a mere hour's drive away.
Experience the impact of geography, climate and soil on the grape and ultimately on the final wine.
These are examples of grapes you might want to learn more about:
Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah / Shiraz, Grenache / Garnacha, Nebbiolo.
